“Strange gentleman? Oh you must be referring to Nightmare. I’m not sure what his deal is but he’s very kind even if he is scary. You probably won’t see him much. I didn’t even know he was still around. Now that I think about it, it’s a little creepy… maybe he just lurks in the shadows?” Mya watched as Yuko got out of the water. She wasn’t quite ready to leave yet but judging by how her fingers had begun to prune that it wouldn’t be much longer. She continued to read Yuko’s magic writing.
“Deep south? I-I have some distant relatives from somewhere down south. I’ve never been there myself because nobody bothered to give me directions, citing that the road was too dangerous. I can take care of myself though! But I’m glad you got away from whatever it was that made you uncomfortable. It’s pretty isolated out here so I don’t imagine you will have to hide too much. I get what you mean, I feel that this castle is special and I’m not quite sure why. I feel that this is where I am supposed to be… for now anyways. That’s why I’ve stuck around even though I left home to go make friends.”
Mya reached under the water and pulled the plug out of the tub. The water began to drain down as she climbed out. Grabbing a towel she dried herself off and grabbed a second towel to wrap up her hair. “Here, I’ll help you dry off a bit more, or I can get a hair dryer for you if you would prefer…If I had a proper brush I would offer to brush you out so your fur doesn’t mat..” If Yuko allowed her, she helped the wolf finish drying off. Mya wrapped her big towel around her body and gathered up her dirty clothes. “C’mon, lets stop by my room so I can get dressed. Then we can go back down to the kitchen and clean up your muddy foot prints!” Mya patted Yuko gently on top of the head and gave a quick ear scritch.
Cracking the door open, Mya stuck her head into the hallway checking to see if the mysterious castle owner was lurking about. Determining that it was probably safe, she sauntered down the hall with Yuko in tow. They climbed the stairs to one of the upper floors. “I still get a little lost when I wander around here, but at least I can find my room!” Mya led Yuko down a couple more hallways until they reached her bedroom. Mya opened the door and let them both inside.
“Make yourself comfortable! I’ll just quickly get changed!” Mya went to the ancient-looking, wooden armoire and opened the doors. Yuko would be able to see at least one row of clothes with another row tucked behind. Most of them were very plain and average looking human attire. Jeans, skirts, t-shirts, tank tops, etc. One side of the wardrobe had several simple sundresses of various colors hanging. Mya selected a cheerful looking yellow dress with sleeves to her elbows and slipped it over her head. If Yuko paid close attention, she would see glimpses of much finer looking material hanging in the back row. Those were her high society outfits that she hadn’t found the need to wear in many years but couldn’t bear the thought of parting with. They were of her heritage, after all.
“You can sleep up here with me if you wish. I don’t have keys to the other rooms but next time we see Nightmare we can ask if you can have your own room if you’d like…” Mya motioned to the queen size bed in the corner of her room. All the furnishings in her room looked ancient, but the bed appeared to be comfortable. “Alright, lets go finish cleaning the kitchen!”
